"Vietnam was America's first 'television war.' The U.S. military with all of its planes and helicopters made it easy for reporters and photographers to cover the war. They could drop in on an American Unit in the bush, spend the day "covering" the war and be back in Saigon in an air-conditioned apartment for the cocktail hour. Not Norman Lloyd. He lived in the jungle with the troops. Lloyd's filming brought a unique perspective to the CBS News coverage."
- Bob Lorentzen, CBS News Bureau Chief, Saigon, 1970

Norman Lloyd is a nine time Emmy award winning cameraman for shows he worked on for CBS News. For the past two years he has dedicated time and energy working on a special documentary about the time he spent with troops of the 5/7th Cavalry both in Vietnam and Iraq. I've been fortunate to view "Commitment and Sacrifice" it is truly a Tour D Force. He has managed to capture the gut feeling and human experience of the everyday life of a foot soldier in combat and the special friendships that evolve when their daily dangerous routine in combat brings them closer together. A bonding that exists even today as they remember their comrades who made the supreme sacrifice.
"Commitment and Sacrifice" was 35 years in the making. It started back in the early days of the Vietnam War where he first became aquainted with the troops of the 7th Cavalry. His hard work and personal involvement in this documentary is evident.
"Commitment and Sacrifice" is a must see for veterans and non veterans of all wars and anyone else who cares about history. Judge for yourself.
